"you know my style, I'll say anything to make you smile"
This week has a new format, and there are so many things to smile about today.
I have been having a pretty good time lately and have been relatively happy.
If you know me, this isn’t quite a surprise because I’m mostly happy, but I was really leaning into this thought at work on Tuesday as I sat at my desk. I was listening to “Hell N Back” by Bakar featuring Summer Walker, and the song just felt like summer and happiness, so it got my mind roaming. I sat and thought of all the things that have been making me smile lately, including new music from Sasha Keable, Jeopardy no longer having those annoying competitions (I was pretty close to boycotting), and the warmer weather.
The consistent theme with Sasha is music's power and how it always gets and keeps me happy. I started thinking of the songs that always make me happy, so I created a short playlist with some of the songs that spark joy for me - hopefully, you will agree on some, and please let me know your faves:
You can listen to the playlist on Spotify here. That’s that for this week. As I mentioned last week, I refreshed the newsletter some. Let me know your thoughts in the comments below or by email or Instagram. This all feels very Kim Possible in 2024.
Whenever I read the phrase “soft life,” I think of this scene from The Color Purple, not quite sure why. However, I thought this article on why millennials are opting for the soft life vs. the rat race was interesting, yet a duh moment, because we are tired.
If you are being asked to go to Panera at 7 PM for coffee, it’s probably a MLM Pyramid Scheme, and you shouldn’t go.
Yesterday, President Biden signed a bill to force the sale or ban of TikTok. As a TikTok lurker and a person who works in social media, I am very curious how this will turn out. I both understand the need for the ban and despise the thought of a ban. In the meantime, I will start collecting some of the things I have saved on the platform and follow some of my favorite creators on Instagram.
Speaking of which, I hate all these new AI features on Instagram.
Another thing about TikTok is a heartwarming article about the app's power and intentional community cultivation.
Petty… kinda, but… would you end a friendship over Taylor Swift?
There is a new episode of the Creative Canvas podcast. For this week’s edition,
and I talk about the neverending cycle of rap beefs and boundaries in friendships. Again, thank you so much for all the love on the podcast - I truly appreciate it.As mentioned above, I have not stopped listening to Sasha Keable's new single, “Hold Up.” I hope a new single and video mean a new album is on the way.
I loved this conversation between Siffat Haider and Live Tinted founder Deepica Mutyala on The Dream Bigger Podcast. The pair talk about being POC founders, how they started their companies, and more. LOVE. LOVE.
I’m still playing this edition of Soulection Radio.
There's no link yet, but Sinead Harnett's new album is coming tomorrow, and I’m ecstatic.
Club Shay Shay has become a space where people either spill tea or air their grievances with other people. For this week’s episode, Shannon was joined by Amanda Seales, and I found the conversation to be very… interesting. She fascinates me for whatever reason.
Loot is back on Apple TV, and I am loving this season.
There is no link here, but I would love to say that I have finally reached the point where I knew someone on House Hunters and texted so many people—I am overly excited.
That’s it for this week. I’ll catch you soon!
