writing through tornado warning
It's a short and somewhat sweet newsletter.
We are currently on Tornado Watch, so my internet keeps flickering so I can’t finish writing everything I wanted. Nonetheless, here are this week’s recommendations:

Stop the presses… JOJO HAS A BOOK COMING OUT ON SEPTEMBER 17TH, and I can not wait to read it. In the meantime, here is an interview with Jojo in Bustle about the book.
I am adding many of these books to my TBR list.
I stan Rapsody and loved this interview in Sweet July.
One of the random things about my mom is her love of Barbara Streisand. Growing up, she had a framed picture of her on her desk because, aside from Whitney Houston, she was one of her favorites. Thus, I was excited to read Barbara’s memoir, My Name Is Barbara. It was a good read, with many exciting stories, photos, and anecdotes.

I love this: We’re 82-year-old Best Friends Who Traveled Around the World in 80 Days. Here’s What It Was Like.
things to listeIt's:

It’s Black Music Month, and we talked about that and more oweek's week’s episode of the Creative Canvas podcast. In addition, for last week’s episode, we shared our top ten favorite albums of all time in response to Apple’s Top 100 albums.
Another Rapsody mention: I can’t stop listening to her new album, Please Don’t Cry. Honestly, it’s perfect.
If you are in a career rut or just trying to level up, this episode of the Balanced Black Girl podcast was so good. Lauren Wesley Wilson, founder and CEO of ColorComm and author of “What Do You Need?”, shared some great tips on how to find a mentor, build a strong network, and more.
I have been adding a lot of music to my sounds-like spring playlist, which you can listen to here via Spotify.
a few other things worth checking out this week…

One of my favorite shows, Couple’s Therapy, is back, and this season is already off to an interesting start.
Also, in more couch potato things, I have been watching a suite of interesting shows, including:
I’m back to having a crush on Common; thus, I loved his interview with Pete Rock on the latest episode of Drink Champs.
Also, loved J. Valentine’s interview on Sway’s Universe.
That’s it for this week!
