I started writing today's newsletter on Saturday after a session with my writing group, and I was highly motivated to write about a fun topic. However, the world has had me in my feels. There is so much going on, between the fires still raging in my home state of California, the potential TikTok ban news, and also realizing that we are in the final days of the Biden-Harris administration, so writing about my little topic felt like I wasn't reading the room.
With that, I am keeping this week's newsletter short and sweet. I am sharing a few resources to donate to those impacted by the LA Fires and a few things that sparked my joy this week.
I will talk with you next week.
Last week, I read House of Eve by Sadega Johnson, and I loved it. I enjoyed so much of the book, including the multiple POV with narration, the characters, and the twist within the book. I highly recommend it.
I also read There's Always This Year: On Basketball and Ascension by Hanif Abdurraqib, and I enjoyed it. It took me a second to get into the way it was written, but once I did, I was hooked.
I also listened to I'm Laughing Because I'm Crying by Youngmi Mayer. After all, I saw a friend reading it on Instagram. I had never heard of Youngmi before reading the book, but you can always get me to read a book if it's a memoir, and I loved listening to this. Parts in the audiobook would only be felt by listening to the book. I highly recommend it.
Summation: I read a lot in the Winter because it's too cold to do anything else.
I fell in love with Maggie Rogers's "Love You For A Long Time." What a perfect song!
The new Bad Bunny Album is everything. The treadmill hates to see me coming when I’m listening to it.
Our forever First Lady, Michelle Obama, not attending the Inauguration.
My birthday twin, Vice President Kamala Harris, did not invite Vance for a courtesy visit before the Inauguration.
I teared up watching this. Congrats to Craig Melvin for his new position on the Today Show.
My favorite movie, Notting Hill, is on Netflix; you're welcome.
Omg! I almost watched Notting Hill the other day!!! Now I must 🙇♀️
