If you understand the reference in the subject line, you’re my kind of person. If you don’t know where that comes from, let me introduce you:
The uptightness and overthinking that Whitley Gilbert was experiencing in “A Different World” when she decided to go to therapy is something that I have been working through lately. No, I’m not stressed about an ex-boyfriend moving out of the country with his supermodel fiance (you have to watch the episode). Still, I’ve been stuck in my head lately, being overwhelmed, over-engineering my systems, adjusting to newness, and learning people.
Getting to this place of release has resulted from several conversations with the people I love and care about most. The overarching theme from these conversations is that I try too hard to be perfect, and I overthink things I cannot control, which are both facts. Thus, I am attempting to let that go and am just relaxing and releasing. I’m just staying present and extending myself the same grace I give to others.
And with that, here are a few things I thought were worth sharing this week:
I can’t stop listening to the Coco & Breezy remix of Janelle Monae’s “Float.”
I also updated the ongoing playlist, “Notes of Spring,” and I must say, it’s a vibe. It’s very springy-housey.
As always, this was a great conversation on Uninterrupted’s “The Shop.”
Mourning the fact that “Snowfall” is over, and I have many thoughts about the series finale, but in the meantime, this was a great interview with Wanda (Gail Bean) and Leon (Isaiah John), my two favorite characters from the show.
I loved “Tiny Beautiful Things” on Hulu, based on Cheryl Strayed’s book of the same time. I love Kathryn Hahn; secondly, I love the various relationships the show explored.
This is a great advice column from Elaine Welteroth’s Ask Elaine column on balancing career and friendship.
Phew! I felt overly seen while reading this article.
This was a pretty good interview with Careesha!
That’s it for this week.
I'm relaxing, relating and releasing
