I am writing this newsletter while watching Wicked on Apple TV. I had forgotten that I don’t really like musicals, but as we are about to enter a new year in a few hours, I’m trying new things. With that said, happy New Year's Eve!
2024 was a pretty good year for me. I spent plenty of time with friends, started a new job, celebrated another birthday, and discovered a lot about myself, my interests, and the things that bring me joy. However, I'm also excited about the upcoming year.
A few highlights from the year:
Tomorrow, January 1st, marks my seventh anniversary of living in Maryland, which is hard to believe. When I first moved here, I thought it would be a short stop before returning to the Bay Area, simply to gain the experience of living in a different state and on a different coast. Yet here I am, still living in Maryland.
While I am still confident that California's food scene is leaps and bounds better than the food here, I have made some great friends here, got to experience living alone for the first time, grown into my career, and have found that I have come out of my shell more. Although I have always considered myself a social introvert, living here has pushed me to become more of a social butterfly. I find myself striking up conversations with random people in the grocery store. This summer, I chatted with others at Trader Joe's about my newfound love for peaches. I've also started going on cute little excursions by myself and am beginning to understand why my friends enjoy my company—I’m quite entertaining if I say so myself.
Nonetheless, I am happy to celebrate this anniversary and am interested to see what this year will bring. I planned on doing a recap at the end of 2024 earlier this week but never sent it. Here are a few of my favorite things from the previous year.
Gather Me: A Memoir in Praise of The Books That Saved Me by Glory Edim Such a beautiful book. It’s a memoir, mixed with a love note to the books that shaped her.
Before I Let Go and This Could Be Us by Kennedy Ryan I’m not typically a romance girl, but I love these books. I can not wait for the final installment dropping in May 2025.
Late to the game but Shrinking is my favorite TV show this year. I love the characters and the storyline.
Let me know what you loved this year!
I am doing my annual goal-setting gathering this week with my girlfriends, and I will share more next week. But I know for sure that I will be doing the 12-week year approach to my goals and I know that my year will be focused on consistency in all areas: health, wealth, relationships, hobbies, and this newsletter that I’ve neglected.
In the meantime, I hope you have a great and safe New Year, and I look forward to catching up with you soon.
Also, Don't forget that Dawn Porter's Luther Vandross Documentary, Luther: Never Too Much, will air on CNN tomorrow at 8 p.m.
Happy New Year my love!!
