A few days to happiness and a wine down
Lianne La Havas' new album is almost here, a conversation with my friend Chasity, founder of Wine with Chas and more
We are just days away from something I have anxiously been awaiting - a new album from Lianne La Havas.
It’s been forever since she released an album, and with everything going on in the world this is going to be a piece of happiness that we all can use. I’m very excited, so I shared two pictures too from the last time I saw her live at The Independent in San Francisco.
Once you listen to the album, let me know your thoughts.
In other news, as mentioned in my previous newsletter, I started a series to highlight some of my cool, smart and creative friends who have cool ventures like newsletters, creative projects, and small businesses. The first friend who I featured was Alisa and her brand VLY GRL, and now I’m excited to introduce you to my friend Chasity.
I’ve shared Chasity’s newsletter Wine With Chas in the newsletter a few times and it’s one of my favorites. Not to mention, Chasity is one of my favorite people. I learn a lot from her on a daily basis and am extremely thankful for the transparency and vulnerability that we are able to share within our friendship. Read one of my favorite parts of our interview below, and make sure to read more of the interview as well as connect with her on social media.
Representation matters because it takes away the intimidation or fear people may have to try wine or explore the industry from a professional stance. The more of us that claim space in the wine industry, the more encouraged others will be to take their place, too.

Also three shameless plugs:
My mom’s sorority is selling popcorn - check it out for your quarantine eats. I got the cookies and cream one because I have a sweet tooth.
I wrote this article for The Every Girl awhile ago, and think you should read it.
Although 2020 is the year to get rid of planners and I also have a lot of them, Self Planner is selling the undated 6-month planner (good for goals) for $9.99. If you want to try it out email me because I got a 25% off coupon from purchasing. Also, if you are silently judging me because I got another planner, keep your judgement to yourself. God knows my heart.
Things I listened to:
The last time I wrote, I mentioned that I was getting back into my podcast kick and loved part 2 of the Questlove podcast with Babyface. He talks about how it could have been perceived that “Can We Talk,” was really for Usher vs. Tevin Campbell, his work on the iconic Waiting to Exhale soundtrack, and more.
Jojo released an acoustic version of her new album good to know. She also released an acoustic video of my favorite song from the album, “Think of You,” and I think she’s in a thruple (polyamorous relationship).
Sinead Harnett is my girl, and I love this new song “Stickin” with her Masego and VanJess.
I have two new playlists you may like: one is mellow, and the other is everything - literally.
It’s so sad that Pop Smoke wasn’t around the see the release of his new album Shoot for the Stars Aim for The Moon because it’s a great album. I love the tone of his voice. Gone too soon literally. I’m also loving the new album from Westside Gunn Flygod is An Awesome God 2 and again I love his voice/vibe. His sound reminds me of Roc Marciano (my favorite Roc Marciano song).
Also loving Golden Hour from Baby Rose and feel indifferent on the new Snoh Alegra. “Dying 4 Your Love,” just sounds like a leftover from her album which isn’t a bad thing but I’m just not going to throw the glitter out for it you know?
One of the best things about the show I May Destroy You is the soundtrack. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. Spotify put together a playlist of all the songs from the show and love. Listen here
Things I Watched:
Last weekend I watched Netflix’ The Baby-Sitters Club and yes, I cried. Growing up, the movie and the series were my favorite (along with Sweet Valley High) and I loved the reboot just as much. Here’s a great read about how the Baby-Sitters club raised a generation.
Things I Read:
Right now I’m reading two books: Circe and Make Time. Circe is great, and Make Time has great tips. What are you reading right now? In addition to the two books here are a few things you should read:
I am all here for saying goodbye to the bra. I have felt so liberated these days having my girls’ around thriving, swinging, and impressively staying up and perky.
I live alone and when I was getting ready in the morning, I’d be getting dressed and because there is nobody else here and I wasn’t seeing anyone, it was like: ‘Why do I need to put a bra on? It’s just going to be uncomfortable.’ I got used to not wearing it for the first couple of months and now I’m thinking I’m just going to ditch it.
Growing up Cece Peniston was ALWAYS on in my house. My mom LOVED/LOVES her and knows all these random facts. That being said this article about how Black Women Helped Build House Music. Their Credit is Ofter Left Off Records spoke to my heart. Also if you have never seen this performance featuring Cece, Robin S. and Crystal Waters from Black Girls Rock last year, you’re welcome.
Love how open Simone was here - also the photos are epic. More on the saga of The Wing, and Chloe x Halle’s Transformation.
Lastly, very excited for Joy Reid’s new show starting July 20th. I’ll be there.
This thread about the passing of Naya Rivera really hit me. I didn’t know her, but feel like we’ve seen her grown up from shows like The Fresh Prince, Family Matters, and Glee. She seemed like a beautiful person, very sad about her passing. Also, this story in particular the headline says it all.
That’s it for now. I’ll holla.
