Shout-out to the ladies
We are living another week being like Akon and Styles P.
That was corny, but I definitely was singing "I'm locked up, they won't let me out," when I first started writing this newsletter. Hope you're doing well and staying safe. This week, I am looking to find things that bring me joy like Jeopardy's College competition which started yesterday, or by the College Hill Marathon BET was playing.
Hope you're finding joy, and here are a few things that I'm hopeful will bring you some this week:
1. I didn't know much about Lil Dicky aside from that he was a rapper. I also didn't really put together that his nickname was like a satire of him having a little dick - yeah, I probably thought his name was Richard. Nonetheless after seeing people writing about it, I decided to watch his show Dave on Hulu and bruh, hella funny. Watch it. Here's one of my highlights from the show.
2. When I was a little kid, I always wanted to be on Soul Train with Shemar Moore (whatever) and Soul Beat. Loved this article about the nostalgia that is Soul Beat.
3. Did you watch Cheer? I wasn't as amazed by it as I thought the cheerleader in me would be (most spirited cheerleader four years in a row) but loved La'Darius Marshall and his story, and his toe touches.
4. Last Friday was a good day for music: Thundercat released his new album It Is What It Is, and so far I'm enjoying it. Kiana Lede's new album Kiki is love. I love how cutesy her songs are and how pretty her voice is. My favorite release last week however was BOSCO's Someday It Will All Make Sense. BOSCO never disappoints for me.
5. Anxiously waiting for Sasha Marie's Instagram Live session on Soulection's Instagram.
6. I wrote an article from my friend's website about how you can use music to drown out some of issues going on right now.
