Why you need to stay prayed up.
“The most important thing is to try and inspire people so that they can be great at whatever they want to do.”
Like many, I am still in shock about the passing of Kobe Bryant and his daughter. Kobe was a legend in my book and felt almost like a family member. We’ve seen him throughout his whole career – coming to the league, transitioning to the business side and creative ventures, and I think President Obama said it best:
“Kobe was a legend on the court and just getting started in what would have been just as meaningful a second act.”
It’s going to take awhile to wrap my head around this but wanted to share with you all one of my favorite Kobe Bryant moments via Moesha where he played the jock who Moesha had to tutor.
May he, his daughter, and the other families that lost their lives in this terrible tragedy rest in peace.
In other news, here are some of the things I recommend you check out this week:
Keeping in the spirit of Kobe, here are two reads that I enjoyed. First, Inc. put together a compilation of some of his best quotes – one I started this newsletter with, and secondly, this article from Myleik Teele that she wrote a few years ago.
I really enjoyed this article this New York Times feature on Rosie Perez: “Performance sex is the worst because you’re letting yourself go. When you get to that place, you’re going to take over the world.”
Apparently, us millennials love Zillow because we’ll never own a home. Also, don’t think this is true either.
Whether or not you’re a fan of Basketball Wives or not, you should have heard about the famed (in the world of basketball wives) Jackie Christie, wife of Doug Christie. On this interview with Jemele Hill, they discuss basketball, being a controversial basketball wife, and to or not give oral (I did think this was interesting). Here’s also an interesting article on Jackie and her marriage to Doug – they get remarried EVERY YEAR. I literally can’t with that. I only want to do my wedding weave of 32 inches one time in my life, just saying.
Literally everything, proud of the skin I’m in.
Interesting podcast episode on Death, Sex & Money, about having friends from different races. Interesting perspective – I think growing up in such a diverse place like the bay area, I never thought about having friends that were solely just black. I have friends of every race – literally just who I gravitate to.
Tyler the Creator has come a long way from OFWGKTA, and I’ve loved witnessing his growth. Last year he released IGOR and he won a Grammy for Best Rap Album – well deserved. He also performed at the Grammy’s and his wig had HELLA body.
A new podcast I will be listening to on the downfall of Wework.
