Book club reads
Life came at your girl a little fast this week thus this week is a little on the short and sweet side. Also just wanted to give you a heads up, I'm toying around with making this newsletter biweekly vs. weekly. This will give me more time to find things that are worthy of being shared, plus, I'll be able to put more wit in there. Let me know what you think, but in the meantime, here are a few of the things that I thought were worth sharing:
First, my book club read Jacqueline Woodson's Red at the Bone - emphasis my book club, not really me, and gauging from the conversation it was a pretty good read. I had every attempt to fully read the book but got bored at a point and started skipping through. Apparently, don't do that, you'll miss all the good parts. From the conversation however, I do suggest you give it a read. It covers a lot of topics including: family, class, Tulsa Race Riots and more.
Next on our book club list is Kiley Reid's Such a Fun Age. Read along with us and let me know your thoughts.
Later this week, Mac Miller's posthumous album Circles comes out and I'm pretty sad about it. This album many critics have said could be a classic, it's just sad he won't be here in the physical to see it. I listened to the lead single from the album, Good News," and couldn't help but feel very sad. What were your thoughts of the song?
This is an interesting method for reaching goals - weekly vs. monthly or quarterly. I'm tempted to try this out for a week and see how successful I am with it.
Things that don't matter, but are interesting to read - how tall is Bernie Sanders? Also other democrat news that doesn't matter really - Cory Booker left the race, but is still dating Rosario Dawson.
This Soulection, Day 2020 mix is pretty nifty.
Since I've been doing a lot of music listening just on shuffle these days, I've been able to rediscover some music I forgot about. One of those such albums is Janelle Monae's TheArchAndroid. Hard to believe this album is a decade old now basically, but it's still so beautiful. I've been listening to "Oh, Maker," and "Neon Valley Street," on repeat for the last few days.
I'm all for random dates, but a date and space - your girl wouldn't be there. I think a space date would make me ponder too many things: what am I going to eat? how long will it take to get up there? what are we going to do up there - crip walk on the stars? I would probably sweat my hair out in that limited space with no air conditioning. Then he's going to try to feel up on you at some point and I may be musty. That's all. Very random thoughts - but nah.
Also interesting read on the difference of coverage of the royals.
