Happy 2020 Honey
I'm writing this in the snow as I listen to the the Sunday Service Choir album, Jesus is Born.
No, I'm not sitting in the snow. Although it is snowing, I was being dramatic because I'm a day late sending this out.
But yes, hey, what's up, hello. I've missed you and hope that you have missed me too. We are reunited and yes, it feels so good. I was trying to avoid that line because it's corny, but for 2020 I am living in my truth. I hope you've had time to create your vision boards, goal set, and other things that your heart desires. If not, here's a pretty interesting read that I found about how Warren Buffet sets his goals.
My goals this year are framed around healthier living - including fitness and better eating habits because my body is a fine ass temple that I need to preserve. Also, I want to travel more as well as earn, and save more money. What are your goals for the new year?
In the meantime, here are some of the things I thought were worth sharing this week:
Although I believe his pink hair looks like cotton candy and I don't fully understand the video direction, I'm loving the new single "Yummy," by Justin Bieber. It's super catchy and no, he's not talking about food. Even more than the song, I'm obsessed with this choreography by Parris Goebel featuring one of my favorites Jade Chynoweth.
As mentioned up top, I've been listening to the Sunday Service Choir album. I will admit, I've been a little behind on it because i thought it was the Kanye album again for whatever reason, but I'm in love. I've played "Father Stretch," and "Rain," so much that I know the words. I love how they took songs that we already know and complete switched them up. Obsessed.
I'm super late, seriously a year late, but I just realized that Adrian Marcel released a new album last year in the form of 98th and I love.
Oakland produces greatness - just saying.
Speaking of music – listen to my current playlist, it has a little bit of everything I’ve been listening to lately.
Rest in peace still to Nipsey Hussle always and forever. He was a bookworm, and a group of cool guys (I assume) created a book club based around the books that he read.
One of my favorite interviews and articles that I have done was an interview with J.Dilla's Uncle Herm for Greenroom magazine. In the interview, we talked about Dilla's legacy, Detroit's change and more. This interview was a few years ago, and now, it looks like the donut shop he started in his nephew's legacy, Dillas Delights, has closed. He launched a GoFundMe to help it reopen - check it out and consider donating.
Saving Money: If one of your goals for the new year is to save some money, try Digit. I've tried it in the past and ended up cancelling it because it charged a $5 fee per month - yes, I'm cheap. This time however, I've kept it up for the past few weeks and have already saved a significant amount. It looks at your spending habits and sees what money it can put to the side in a savings thing. Check it out.
Netflix has been doing the damn thing for me lately with Singapore Social, Rhythm & Flow and my new show, The Circle but honestly, how do we feel about this? I don't think I hate Goop and Gwyneth Paltrow--although apparently I can't spell her name, but think it's kind of weird. I'm on the fence about this.
Back to Netflix, two things I'm not on the fence about are first, the new series coming Cheer and The Mind of Aaron Hernandez.
First, I was a cheerleader in high school and I was great. I was voted most spirited cheerleader four years in a row which was honestly completely bullshit because I hated all the girls on my team (rude) but yes, I love cheerleading. It's my favorite sport. (I typed that to the rhythm of Too Short saying "What's my favorite word?" Don't judge me ) Watching teams do choreography and stunts and stuff makes me so happy so I'm excited.
The saga of Aaron Hernandez has always been of interest to me. I've watched different documentaries, read articles, books, and listened to the podcast Gladiator which explored his relationships, and sexuality and suggest you listen to that as well. This is a short series but should be interesting.
One more Netflix related thing - Grace and Frankie is back January 15th. TURN ALL THE WAY UP.
Just a few more reads - going to leave them here because I've gone a little overboard now.
