Styling Hollywood and Super Late
HAPPY *WEDNESDAY .
Hope you had a good Labor Day holiday and day off of work. I planned to send this on my regular Tuesday but definitely forgot to hit send. My life is crazy when I don't work. I'm basically tits to the walls without the structure/annoyance of work.
Nonetheless, here we are in September, a month away from my birthday. I can't believe I'll be 31 so soon - it seems like it was just a few months ago that I was talking here consistently about my birthday coming up.
For my birthday this year, my only asks is that you tell your friends to subscribe here and that if you're feeling generous you send me some sort of stationery related item i.e. gel tip pens, dot grid paper, colorful sticky notes. That's it.
Here are a few things I read or listened to this week that I wanted to share:
The older I get, I'm always reading articles about motherhood. I'm always curious when it will happen and what it will look like for me. I found this article, "How to Build a Life Without Kids," to be a very interesting read. The author talks about why motherhood wasn't necessary for her and how the idea of having a kid felt like a way to jump-start her life, but also a way to end it.
I binge-watched Styling Hollywood over the weekend on Netflix and I loved it. The show follows celebrity stylist Jason Bolden, his husband, and their company. I'm sad that this show was only 10 episodes because it was so good. Is someone trying to do a stay at Sanaa Lathan's Airbnb with me?
In other Netflix watches, I randomly decided to watch Travis Scott's documentary, Look Mom I Can Fly, and it gave me a weird reaction. Let me just preface this by saying I'm not really a Travis Scott fan. He has some songs I like ("Sloppy Toppy" featuring Migos is my favorite - sorry mom) but I started tearing up watching this. I found that for one, he was extremely humble, secondly - he's still a kid with how he acts towards his family. Lastly, I just loved how much pride he had in his city and vice versa. Watch it.
TDE singer, SiR's new album Chasing Summer is everything. I'm not surprised honestly, everything SiR releases are tight but this album is great from start to finish. I've been listening to this album nonstop since Friday BUT the stand out tracks for me are: "John Redcorn" "New Sky" featuring Kadhja Bonet, "That's Why I Love You," by Sabrina Claudio, and "The Recipe."
I'm currently reading Lisa Taddeo's Three Women at the suggestion of my friend Kristen (hey boo) and I'm loving it. Here's a pretty interesting conversation with Lisa about the book on one of my favorite podcasts Bad on Paper.
Normani is a queen. Did you see her VMA's performance? Sis killed it and I stan. Loved this article about Normani. Read it.
On the Job, 24 Hours a Day, 7 Days a Week // "Rather than calling them low-wage workers, I would call these workers professionals who are paid low wages. They are taking care of people with very complex needs, people who have multiple chronic conditions, who may have all kinds of varied living environments. A lot of the families are really dysfunctional and the aides have to deal with that, too. And they’re getting paid chump change, and it’s a travesty."
Lastly, please give the gift of love and share this newsletter with your friends.
