My bestie Lizzo, and Queen Toni
I've had a musical time the past few days. First, I fan girled and got my whole life at the Ariana Grande concert. She was so good, literally the bomb--yes, I'm bringing that phrase back. I already knew she could sing BUT , let me tell you, hearing her sing live was everything. If you're my friend on Instagram (shameless plug to hit your girl up) you may have seen my videos from the concert where I was singing WAY too loud.
Next, I watched the BET Awards and I'm obsessed with Lizzo. I've been obsessed and think we would be great friends for various reasons:
She plays the flute, I play the violin so we could make some tight duet.
I rap--kind of, she raps, and sings so we can do a duet
She likes big pony tails and so do I, so we can budget by swapping them out and sharing. Less horses being de-haired (is this a word?)
She's 100% that bitch, and honestly, I'm there with her.
Let's just put it in the universe and hope that it happens.
WHAT I LISTENED TO:
As mentioned I went to the Ariana Grande concert so much of my music consumption was her. I planned to write this week about this meme that had four singers: Mary J Blige, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey and asked the question, who would you let go. I shared with my godsister and thought and still think it was blasphemous that she said she would let Toni go.
Toni is an icon and one of my favorite singers ever--that deep, sultry voice. I thought it was a shoe in that Mary would get the axe HOWEVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR she just performed on the BET Awards and went through a medley of hits and I can't let her go. I literally danced and sang her whole set and summation is, I think I'm going to have to let Mariah go. Don't kill me little lamb people.
Also, since my Godsister thinks I'm the 3% of the population who would keep Toni on the list - here's a record for you of my top five favorite Toni songs:
Last song mention, I have loved Tori Kelly for awhile now. During the week, I randomly went on a random YouTube rabbit hole and watched this live performance of Tori and Kirk Franklin performing ."Never Alone" and could not stop crying. This is my Tuesday tune for you :D
WHAT I LISTENED TO (PODCASTS)
With The Chi season coming to a close, I was missing Lena and fam so I literally listened to so many podcasts with Lena including: Hello Sunshine's "How It Is," The Dave Chang show, and on Nancy. I love hearing Lena's story and also how much she loves Whitney Houston like I do.
"There's a lot of people who wish they could walk in these shoes, but when they get in these J's they would realize it's not all it's cracked up to be."
READS:
Right now, I'm currently reading Dear Sugar's Tiny Beautiful Things advice book and not loving it but I'm committed to finishing. Essentially this book is like an advice column in book format--also like their podcast that was one of my favorite. I loved listening to the podcast and hearing the advice they gave for certain topics BUT reading the book it's like they are crip walking into a weed field and just tumbling over until they run off a cliff. This was used to say they are rambling in these questions and it's an annoying read.
In non-book related reads, here are a few articles I read throughout the week.
