Everything and in between
I keep changing my logo, welcome to the life of a Libra .
However, I wanted to share these photos from The Lily's newsletter that I love. Women are badasses and it's nice to hear/read/see it in various locations. These photos are from The Lily's birthday newsletter--they are two now, which made me realize this little here newsletter is almost one year's old. My little baby. She's consistently changing--new logos, different formats, but she's always changing and she's a lovable little libra just like her mama.
Thank you for rocking with me for a whole year, a few months, or whenever you came. Thanks for telling your friends, and sharing with your networks. I appreciate you more than you know. "You's is kind. You's is special. You's is important." Don't know why I pulled that reference from The Help, but yolo.
In other news, the weekend was great. I had a real friend fueled weekend with friends and met new friends. I had a lot of mimosas at brunch, and also went to see Bay Area fashionista, former Teen Vogue EIC Elaine Welteroth for the DC stop of her book tour. She just released a book called More Than Enough, and although I have not read the book yet, I know it is filled with gems. She said two great things during the discussion that I'd love to leave you with this week:
"There's your intention, and there's your impact. We all need to be responsible for the impact we make."
"Look at where you started and there are always crumbs that will show you where you need to be."
WHAT I LISTENED TO (& WATCHED)
This week I'm doing things a little different because I want to talk about two of my favorite shows this week The Chi and Big Little Lies.
First, let's talk The Chi. If you haven't watched The Chi, you should do it. The show was created by my girl crush, Lena Waithe and follows a few different people who are connected--you'd have to watch the show to understand the web. Sunday was the season finale of the show and literally, I cried for the last twenty minutes of the show and it wasn't a sniffle it was that ugly cry when you can't really breathe. One of my favorite characters on the show, he's a bad guy--he's a drug dealer, may have or may not have got killed off the show. With Jason Mitchell being out of the show for the third season, I'm hoping they didn't kill the drug dealer. YOU HAVE TO WATCH THIS SHOW IF YOU LOVE ME and cry just like I did.
On the other side of TV are my favorite Monterrey ladies on Big Little Lies. I never mentioned the first episode of Season 2 here when Meryl Streep's character was SCREAMING at the table--the scream heard around the world, but she's really stirring the pot this season and I'm here for it. This episode so much was unfolded and I literally sat there talking back to the TV and clutching my invisible pearls. My main sentiments from the episode are first, perhaps vanity but Jane's new bangs really distract me--I wish they would just give her a weave for the time being. Secondly, "I don't want to not be rich."
Please watch them both.
Now for listens this week, it's been a little all over the place. I've been listening to Goldlink's new album Dispora, this Spotify playlist called Kitchen Swagger and the new Mndsgn album Snaxx.
PODCASTS:
There are a few things that I love talking about: how much I love my home of the Bay Area, how much I love the Golden State Warriors and finances. Mixing all those things together, I loved the 'Kneading Dough' podcast episode with Golden State Warrior Draymond Green. Although there's a great part of this I can't related to--he is making $15M a year in the NBA and I'm not where near there--a girl can dream, so many trips, so many weaves, and a tight, tight, tight bookshelf. Nonetheless, I loved what he said about how he worked himself up from making $805K ($400k) to where he is now. Also, I liked hearing him talk about his tips for saving, eating healthy and paying it forward. I'm also here for sharing passwords to be more cost effective--I do that with Hulu, Netflix and Spotify *hair flips.*
