Bay Area Becoming 1
I saw this image in Girls' Night In's Monday morning newsletter and loved it, because I'm currently feeling very carefree these days. This feeling will stop next month I'm sure when I can finally use my planner--soaking it up and living on the wild side.
Nonetheless, hope you had a great week and weekend. I had a blast over the weekend, one of my dear friend's came to visit me. She lives in New York but is from the Bay Area like me so of course, we went to Philz. You may remember a few editions ago I mentioned I went to Philz looking to try their Rosé coffee to find it was really a rose-water coffee. Well this weekend, the barasita called it Rosé iced coffee so I'm going to roll with that.
I had two of them back to back, talk about being coffee wasted and/or just having hella jitters. Both are probably true.
It was also just nice to have a taste of home over the weekend both with my friend and Philz with all their coffee mugs. I'm excited to have more home vibes in this week's episode of the podcast Death, Sex & Money when two bay area natives: Mahershala Ali and Rafael Casal are guest, Mahershala is interviewing Rafael.
WHAT I LISTENED TO:
Amber Mark continues to be my musical boo with her new song "What If." I had a conversation with a friend about her over the weekend, about why we both thought she was from the UK when we first heard her, not sure why because she's definitely from New York, but I love this vibe. It continues the somewhat feeling of "Mixer" which I said makes me feel like I want to walk down the street in gold sparkles in some variation.
Goldlink released a new single, "U Say" featuring Tyler, The Creator & Jay Prince and I love this song. Goldlink can really do no wrong in my eyes BUTTTTTTTTTTT I love the way he is evolving with this song and "Zulu Screams" makes me smile.
Raphael Saadiq is finally releasing new music, in the form of "Something Keeps Calling" featuring Rob Bacon and I love it. Raphael has one of those voices that just makes me smile. Plus, I love the production and the lyrics of this song.
This is also the season that the Future Hive gets its wings back with the release of Future's new album, Save Me. Honestly, I wish I could save myself and get that time back. Future has an annoying voice to me--a mix of a whaling Orca or a scattered Tribal Drum, and this follows suit. There was a period of time when I was all about Future however, that was a few real drunk summers ago. Meh.
Skipping, but just one more musical question, was I the only person who had no idea that Spice Girls' "2 Become 1" was about safe sex? I now know there's a list that ranked it one of the Top 100 songs about sex, but man, I listened to it with my friend on Saturday with a whole new lens. Long live Spice World.
WHAT I READ:
Here are a few of the reads I read over the week.
