I didn't come to play with you today.
Hey , how are you feeling this week? I'm feeling fine just like mama Tyra Banks in these photos below:
These photos have nothing to do with what I planned to talk about this week but Tyra looks great. It has been 23 years since Tyra graced the cover of Sports Illustrated and mama still has it.
I guess this is a decent bridge to say, this weekend is Mother's Day--also my mom's birthday. To celebrate, I am taking some much needed PTO so this week's newsletter is a little bite-sized. I do want to take a second out though and say that I am thankful for the mother's in my life who have helped shape me into the beautiful soul that I am today (my horn just blew, I know): my mom, my stepmom and my grandma.
It took a tribe to raise me and I am thankful for them, and the ways that we have grown together. Well that's all for this week, enjoy the reads and listens below.
READS & LISTENS:
I still stand by the fact that Ari Lennox's voice is not my favorite in the least bit, but I love the vibe of her new album Shea Butter Baby. I was pulled in after "Chicago Boy" and could not stop listening to the album. Very good effort. Listen here.
The radio in DC keeps playing this song, Ade's "Something Sweet" and I'm obsessed. Not only does it sample one of my favorite Foreign Exchange song's, "Sweeter Than You" but it also features Fatman Scoop. It makes me want to two-step and do some footwork or something. A whole VIBE.
My ex-husband, Common, not only looks beautiful in this interview, but what he is saying about love, and masculinity made me drool. *Swoons*
An issue that is near and dear to my heart, Cory Booker and Ayanna Pressley introduced a bill to address maternal mortality. The bill, MOMMIES aims to extend the time period Medicaid will cover postpartum women to a year after they give birth. Current Medicaid coverage for postpartum women is two months. Additionally, the bill will speak to the racial disparities that exist in maternal mortality. Read more about it here--still I'm not sure if he's who I'm voting for, for 2020 if that was your question. Stay tuned for that coming soon.
