Self-care and The Fable of Work-Life Balance
This week, I read a new article published on Fast Company titled, The Insanely Simple Way to Prioritize Your Work and Life.
The article highlighted four different areas to help you prioritize your work and life with a few interesting tips:
Practice Being Present
Before you tell your life what to do, you must listen to what your life is telling you.
Design Your Ideal Week
Your calendar should not be something that stresses you out when you look at it. Every day should be an exciting adventure and if it’s not, then change it. Map out what an ideal week looks like to you.
Don’t Go It Alone
Tap into accountability partners
Consider Your Calling
When you’re having a stressful day, ask yourself “Is this really what I’m meant to do?”
Take the time to read this article, but I did find it to be very helpful with some of the thoughts and roadblocks that I’ve been running into lately.
I know I mentioned in the past that the whole Marie Kondo idea is annoying to me but tapping into that concept and the memes that people have created around her idea—if it’s not bringing you joy, let it go. I’ve been looking at my life from relationships, to work to see which areas are no longer bringing me joy or draining my spirit. It’s unearthed a few things, and areas in my life where I need to adapt self-care, digital detoxes or cutting people out. I do however, really want to take a deeper dive into the self-care aspect.
Self-care has never been an area that I’ve been intentional about doing. I do some things that would fit into this category—overly expensive but necessary manicures and pedicures, solo coffee dates, read books, strolls through paper source, twerking in the mirror, but aside from those things, I’ve never been super intentional about what my self-care things are. So, here’s my ask, what do you do for self-care ? Let’s discuss.
Nonetheless, here are a few reads for the week. Since the whole self-care and work/life balance ideas are on my mind—that’s what this week’s reads are going to be about.
Plus, this isn't an article about self-care BUT I want to add this in some variation to my self-care routine—although when Kim Kardashian hops on to something, it either kills it or makes it insanely expensive.
LISTENS:
Over the weekend, I watched UnSung on Kenny Latimore and I learned a lot. First, I forgot how good of a song "Never Too Busy" was--I'd love someone to love me like that. My second thought was how good of an UnSung it actually was because a good majority of the songs he made, I forgot were his. Watch it and let me know your thoughts. Additionally, I'd love to see an UnSung on Tevin Campbell and Jesse Powell because the only song people know of him is "You." Watch it and let me know your thoughts. Additionally, I'd love to see an Unsung on Tevin Campbell and Jesse Powell because the only song people know of him is "You." You know the song, it goes "BABY IT'S YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU" and he holds the high note forever. That song however is still a wedding favorite and classic after all these years.
Soulection Radio Show #404
Soulection makes me happy. This follow suits, I love this mix especially Cay Caleb's "buyuadrankkkk." This is a pretty lengthy mix so you can listen to it during your day at work or drinking wine or whatever you do.

Schoolboy Q - CrasH Talk
I didn't realize it had been two years since my favorite TDE member, Schoolboy Q had released his last album but this project is definitely worth the wait. The production is good, the features work, and the adlibs on this album warm my soul (cc: Numb Numb Juice). Have you seen this?

Sasha Keable - Man
I'm sure you knew this would be on my music list because I keep talking about Sasha Keable but I really love her. This project, although only four songs shows that she has a great voice--so much soul, and that she and her writers craft songs that resonate so deeply.

The Amours - Mon Amour
My friend put me onto this EP because they are her friends, BUT I love this EP a lot. Again like Sasha, the songs really resonate with me, plus I love their voices. Such a great EP can't wait to hear more.
