The Facial Expressions I Wish I Had
Hi, I'm Erin and I suffer from confused face syndrome, see below.
My dad has the same problem, and says that it annoys him because people always think either he doesn't understand something, or he's not paying attention. My mom said she thinks I often look confused because I have a forced squint from years of bad vision. Either way, I wish my facial expressions were more in line with my girls, Nancy Pelosi's "Fuck You" clap and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's genuine lack of interest during the State of the Union this week, see below.
Trump is a dweeb, so no I didn't watch the address. I did read the transcript however. He is just very annoying--everything about him, his voice, his hair, his little goose lips (bird is too friendly) and he is just is a buzzkill like my current cold is, so I can't entertain him. He lies. He uses his one sided opinions and makes them "facts" that all us "American People" have said.... but this clown and his posse have never spoke to me--yes I know it's a generalization but I am choosing to be petty because this is a fact from me.
Also, what are your thoughts about the 21 Savage deportation case? I was a little late to the party with this since I don't know, sometimes I prefer living under a rock. Let's discuss.
The last thing I want to say is--it's February. Aside from one of the best months of the year, Black History Month, it's also J.Dilla month for us music lovers. If you aren't hip to Dilla--he was a great producer, was responsible for many iconic songs from artists like my ex, Common, Slum Village, Eric Roberson, De La Soul, A Tribe Called Quest and many more. He died of Lupus, and was both born and died in the month of February. It's always one of my favorite times to relive some of my favorite songs by him--so yes, I've included a few (more than ten) in my playlist for this week.
What are some of your favorite Dilla songs ?
Also, shameless plug, I interviewed his Uncle Herm a few years ago about the donut shop he started in Detroit in Dilla's Honor for a publication called Greenroom. You can purchase that issue here, and read the article on their site here too.
CURRENTLY READING:
In last week's newsletter, I wrote about the new podcast, The Dropout about Elizabeth Holmes and her fraud of a company, Theranos. My friend Stephanie (hey, girl hey) has helped me continue my fascination with Holmes and shared the book, Bad Blood by John Carryeou and I'm hooked. I'll let you know my thoughts next week, but here are some articles that I've been reading.
