If It Don't Make Dollars, It Don't Make Cents
(Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez for Ladies Get Paid)
Let me just start by saying, I love Ladies Get Paid, and I love this graphic. That was the start, and now let's get down to the nitty gritty. Today is the first day of the month which makes me think of Bones Thugs-n-Harmony "1st of Tha Month" so it's only fitting that I write about something that speaks about Money! If you've read my newsletter from the beginning, you would see I've had peak Drake moments starting at the bottom (beginning) now we're here (issue number 35) talking about money once again. We all know that money and music go hand-in-hand in a way if you think about it.
There's been tons of songs that speak to it:
Wu-Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M
50 Cent - I Get Money
J Dilla - The Money
Jay Z - Money, Cash, Hoes
Ole Dirty Bastard ft. Kelis - Got Your Money
Johnny Kemp - Just Got Paid
Junior Mafia - Get Money
Kendrick Lamar - Money Trees
Jim Jones - We Fly High
Rick Ross - B.M.F
Lil Wayne - Money on My Mind
NSYNC - Just Got Paid (Remake)
Cardi B - Money
As we can see, money is something people think about. I, myself, with all my retired rapper vibes, I think about money and finances often. The thoughts are often what things can I do to create a huge revenue stream so I can also retire from corporate America work. Some of my recent thoughts have been:
Creating a weave truck that's kind of like a taco truck with tons of bundles instead of burritos. Keeping with the taco truck theme, how about a Soul Food taco truck. Think Fried Chicken burritos with Salsa Fresca, Cheese, Guac, Red Beans and Rice--bomb right?
Nonetheless, thought this would be a good time to refresh money thoughts for the year, as we are still really in the beginning of the year. A few things I am hoping to do in terms of my finances this year is to eliminate most of my debt, save money, increase my retirement, start investing more and look into purchasing more stock. I also want to start giving myself an allowance. I find somethings I just pay bills and never pay myself. With allowances, I also want to make sure I start taking myself on money dates weekly to know where my money and I are standing.
What are your money goals for the year ?

CURRENTLY LISTENING:
Since I named all those songs above, I added them to my continuous playlist which you can listen to here. For this week, I also wanted to highlight three different podcasts, one is a new podcast to listen to and the other two are episodes of podcasts that fit in this finance theme.
NEW PODCAST ALERT: The Dropout
Do you remember the story of entrepreneur and avid black turtleneck wearer Elizabeth Holmes, and her fraudulent company Theranos? When the company first launched, I remember seeing articles and reading interviews about Holmes as she was the youngest female billionaire in the world--she started her company when she was 19 years old. She was interviewed by the likes of Bill Clinton and was dubbed the next Steve Jobs. Her company, Theranos was a biotech company that was supposedly going to shift the healthcare industry--but sis was a fraud. The new podcast is a six-part series from ABC News and Nightline hosted by Rebecca Jarvis and covers the twists and turns of her Elizabeth's rise and fall. I've listened to the first two episodes, and I've come away with two thoughts--first being I can't wait to hear more, and secondly, Elizabeth has a cute raspy voice but also was overly confident in a way that would be overly annoying.
PODCAST EPISODES
Two different podcast episodes that I want to share this week both are related to money. The first is from one of my favorite financial literacy podcasts, Paychecks and Balances and it's called "Get Financially Organized." The episode as the title alludes to, helps you get organized with your finances--speaks to the reality of the gig economy and the idea of knowing where your money is going.
The second was featured on one of my favorite podcasts, Call Your Girlfriend called "Money, Money, Money." Such great tips from one of my favorite finance gurus Tonya Rapley.
CURRENTLY READING:
I'm attempting to read Kamala Harris' new book "The Truths We Hold" but I'll be honest, it's been too cold to read--shout out to tonight's 4 degree weather. Instead I'll share some of the articles I've been reading this week including one on one of the original models, and lifestyle gurus for me, B. Smith that made really scrunch my face up.
