Let's talk about something that starts with P
What did you think when you saw the subject line?
Something kinky?
Something dirty?
Well get your mind out of the gutter. The P word(s) that I'm talking about this week are productivity and podcasts. Productivity, and planners are two of my favorite things in the world. I love being organized, and creating systems that make me more productive vs. just faux busy. Every year to get me thinking about my productivity systems for the new year I read my favorite Fast Company issue always on the most productive people to get some interesting tips around email and such (this year's cover is so cute with Janelle Monae and her two braids) and I also read the book Manage Your Day to Day: Build Your Routine, Find Your Focus & Sharpen Your Creative Mind by 99U which helps me think of some great ideas.
Here are a few of the productivity hacks I'm trying in the new year - let me know yours too .
As an planner addict (I've already had 3 for this upcoming year) one of my big goals for the new year is to just stick with one planner, my Passion Planner (if you want this planner, I have a $10 promo code, so just reply back and I'll hook you up). This will be good because I know some people who use their planners as a way to reflect over everything they've done throughout the year--must be nice, that's never been me. It's my goal to try this year though.
I want to really work on my side hustles this year to increase my revenue streams (one of my goals for the new year). Normally, I have about three going at one time to feel happy, this year however, with moving I kind of slacked off. To get back on track, I'm committing 10 hours per week, which includes weekends, to work on my side hustles. This means I have to practice saying no to things. End of the day, I'm doing one brunch, one happy hour and one dinner per month to help with this.
One time I wrote about some of my favorite productivity hacks, and I plan to try this one from Chelsea Clinton this year: "Right now, I think about what I have to get done over the course of a month and generally think about my life in terms of a month and I generally think about my life in terms of weeks within each month, setting goals for everything I hope to get done for work, for everything I hope to get done for work, friends and mostly importantly family.”
Erin out!
P.S. I was binge watching EVE this week. What a great show. I miss Eve. I was always fascinated that her name was the same forwards and backwards.
Here are a list of five of my favorite podcasts/episodes from the year. Hopefully you listen. What were some of your favorites this year? I'm always looking to add to the list.
Topping the list of my favorite podcast of the year, it's my three favorite boos Jilly, Lo and Greta with Lady Lovin. If you grew up watching Laguna Beach and the Hills like I did (I'm a California honey) then you know Lo the bestie of LC--you may even remember Jilly from a few cameos on the Hills. On this podcast they talk about everything from self-care, dating, finances, and just life. For the last three years, this has been my source of Monday laughter while working but I'm sad to report, there are only two episodes of the podcast before it ends forever. (listen here)
Of course on my list of podcasts would be Slate's Slow Burn second season on the Bill Clinton administration. Of course this would be on my list as I talk about it so often but love. This is a great podcast and OMG, I literally had to clutch my pearls listening to this podcast multiple times.
Gladiator on Aaron Hernandez. This podcast is another OMG, because although I followed the case, listening to the interviews and such made this such a great listen.
My favorite long distance besties, aka the duo for Call Your Girlfriend, have made up some of my favorite podcast listens of the year. The segment on the nuns who were embezzling for trips warmed my little Catholic school girl heart, this interview with my birthday twin Kamala Harris and this gem. Let us also take a second to revisit one of my favorite Call Your Girlfriend discoveries of the year, tahaha.
Another one of my favorite podcast episodes of the year was Bobbi Brown's interview on How I Built This. I've always been a fan of her brand, but didn't know much about the start and such. Great listen.
Also, don't forget, while you're getting all in your productivity you should check out my playlist I created of my 100 best songs of the year.
