It's almost the end of the year...
the year is coming to an end, and I feel nostalgic
This has been a pretty interesting year for music. Some music has been amazing while others have been pretty uneventful. For the rest of the year, I'll be highlighting some of my favorite albums and songs from the year, as well as some of my favorite reads of the year as well. Let me know what some of yours were as well--let's chit chat. Also, you may have noticed it's a little different in these parts. Don't be alarmed, I'm just a Libra so I am sometimes quite indecisive about these kind of things.
Also, over the weekend, I finally watched all three parts of the Clinton Affair. I realize that I am always talking about Bill Clinton and the Slate podcast Slow Burn that documents his affairs and his presidency, and honey, the docuseries gave me all the tea. I literally sat on the couch with my mouth open and I have a few notes.
First, I like Clinton. He was a considerably good president and seems like a real fun guy to hang out with. He likes Jazz, and people so I'm good with him, but he literally could not keep his little Billy in his pants. There was Monica, Paula, Jaunita and others.
Hillary used to be a baddie. Sis and the black cold shoulder/turtleneck combo--literally, goals. It's also quite influential, see.
Linda Tripp was a bird--or really a trip. Whenever I think of Linda, the song "Backstabbers" by the Ojays plays in my head because that was her. How would you record all these conversations with your "friend" and set her up? Yeah, Monica was a side girl with a big mouth, but why not be super transparent if you were really trying to be a friend. Linda said she was trying to help her -- girl, bye. With a "friend" like that, who really needs enemies?
Monica was too naive. I tried to think if I was naive when I was 21 or 22 and I was somewhat, but I had a moral compass. I knew that cheating was bad and that cheating with a president was not the move. Nonetheless, she was naive. She felt he really loved her--I think he liked, and was flattered by her, he even gave her a series of Christmas gift but, love, nope. I think he appreciated having a young honey, twenty years his junior crushing on him. She also told Linda ALL her business and her other friends too. Being the other woman is nothing to brag about in life but with the president even more.
Thank goodness there was no social media during his presidency--granted that means nothing as we have a dweeb for president who has does questionable things every day on social media, but yeah. Just imagine the Shaderoom being around during the Clinton presidency too many seedy photos would surface.
Last TV bit, did you guys watch the premiere of Dirty John on Bravo? I listened to the podcast with intrigue and skepticism for the Deb, but watching it play out--I literally had to catch my contact from all my eye rolling. Let's discuss.
Last part of this ramble, I really want to be friends with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez when she comes to DC.
OKURRTTTTT, bye.
As mentioned above, for the next few weeks, I will highlight some of my favorite albums of the year. I thought a better way to do this would be to perhaps highlight one album and a few songs for the rest of the year. Sounds like a plan? I pretended that you agreed. As always, don't forget to listen to my ongoing playlist, Fall 2018.
Also, listen to my 2018 Best Playlist // this songs below will be featured and additional ones will be added too.
Album: Leon Bridges - Good Thing
I wrote about this album in a newsletter some time ago, and I still continue to love this album. Prior to this album, I wasn't really into Leon--I didn't like the whole 50's, schoolboy gimmick that he had. With this album, however, Leon traded in that vibe for a soulful project, full of bops like the kids like to say. One of my favorite songs of the year also, "Shy" made it's way on this album too. I don't know what else to say but I love, love, love this album. // Listen here
Amber Mark - Love Me Right
Honestly, I think this was my favorite song of the year. For the last eight months or so, I have listened to this song about 2 times per day. Amber's voice makes me happy, and I feel the lyrics so much. // Listen here
Mac Miller - What's The Use
RIP Mac, one of the saddest memories of the year. His album Swimming was one of my favorite from the year, and this song here is the ultimate vibe. The production is a groove. // Listen here
One of my favorite reads of the year was Fran Hauser's book, The Myth of The Nice Girl. It's essentially a career book for women, but I think it's honestly a good book for any working person. While reading this book, there was a lot of things that I found I needed to work on and continue to work on. That being said, Ladies Get Paid podcast interviewed Fran and it made for a pretty compelling interview. Listen to it here, also check out Ladies Get Paid--their Slack group is my favorite for resources and networking. // Listen here
