Gobble, Gobble, Shake It, Shake It
CONNECT WITH ME ON THE INTERWEBS
, are you going to let me see you Gobble, Gobble and Shake It, Shake It this week?
I'm slightly corny, but very cute, but that had to be done. I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and had tons of fun with your family, friends, and your dry bird--the turkey, meh. Last week, there was a lot of music that was released so I gave my take on some of the projects below, but also made a new playlist that I will continue to update. It's called Fall 2018, although it feels like Winter 2048.
Playlist: Fall 2018
This playlist includes some of the new albums that came out last week, as well as just some of my current favorite tunes in general. This is my current playlist so I will continue to update frequently. There are also some classics on here, Keith Sweat and such.
Listen and follow the playlist here
Anderson Paak - Oxnard
I have been waiting for the new project from Anderson for what felt like forever, and it didn't disappoint at all. The production was great and made me miss California so much. I also love the features on the album: BJ The Chicago Kid, Snoop, Kendrick, and my favorite feature/song on the album, Q-Tip on "Cheers." The drums man.
City Girl - Girl Code
When I initially heard this album, it was pretty meh to me--I don't think I was in a ratchet mood. Although I'm still not 100% feeling it, I do think at some point I will change my mind. City Girl's don't rap so well, but their songs are catchy and are sometimes the things use classy women wish we could say in particular, "Broke Boy" on the album. Listen to it.
Big Krit - Thrice
Big Krit released his surprise three-track EP and the production is lit as the kids say. In general, the EP helped me remember how underrated Krit is. All his projects have been pretty solid and made me go through different moods--wanting strip club chicken, an old school, or just thinking. This follows suit and is love.
Mariah Carey - Caution
I know I will make three of my friends mad with this but your girl isn't feeling this album. Mariah always reminds me of the Benjamin Button of music--trying too hard to stay relevant, when she's a legend so she doesn't need to. This album sounds too teeny bopper and makes me wish that she would grow up. Sorry, well not really.
Lekeli47 - Acrylic
Lekeli47 who released her new album, Acrylic and it slaps. There's a theme that runs through the album, for the most part, being in the nail shop and I love it. "Walk in and smell the acrylic," but yeah, it's a pretty cute album. My favorite song on the album falls off the theme, and is "No Reload." I don't know all the words to it but when it comes on, I shout that line at the top of my lungs.
Like many, I am currently reading the new memoir from my favorite first lady, and pretend aunt, Michelle Obama in the form of Becoming. I loved this book, and think you should read it. From her review of the book, Shonda Rhimes said a few things that resonated with me while reading the book, see below. I will update you once I finish reading the book--hopefully this weekend while I have down time.
"She's thoughtful, humorous, bracingly revealing, and when it’s time, she does us all the favor of showing us the human side of a man worshipped by so many."
"It’s human and genuine and welcoming to see the layers of humanity she holds open. For any woman, it’s heartening and helpful to know that the accomplished and powerful Michelle Obama has the same feelings and issues we all recognize as our own."
Also, New York Times released their list of the 100 Most Notable Books of The Year, and some of my favorite reads of the year made the list like Tayari Jones' An American Marriage, and Zadie Smith's Feel Free: Essays. One of my least favorite books of the year--which I actually donated to the library, Meg Wolitzer's The Female Persuasion made the list as well. There were a few books that were featured on the book, that I will be adding to my list after I finish Becoming including Immigrant, Montana by Amitava Kumar and The Parking Lot Attendant by Nafkote Tamirat.
