New Month--let's make some moves
I wonder if Wyclef ever came back.
That's my hey it's November greeting for you. Hope this month is good for you and that you're able to knock out some of your goals this month if that's the kind of thing you do. I'm going to do some goal setting this month, so I'm no longer aimlessly crip-walking through life, but rather being super intentional with the moves that I am trying to make. I'm pretty excited for some things that are coming up like finally doing some traveling, but I'll spare you those details now. Also, I have some pretty exciting things coming up in the next few editions of this newsletter and hope that you will find them to be interesting.
Last weekend, I do something that I do kind of often--hold your breath. I deleted my whole Spotify library and playlist. Don't worry though, if you follow the playlists from previous newsletters, you can still access them, but sometimes I have too much music in there that I can't really find stuff I want to listen to. Anywho, for a while, I've been in love with Shawn Mendes' song "Lost in Japan" and over the weekend, the video for the song came out--talk about a great video! For the video, Shawn heads to Japan and recreates the movie Lost in Translation, into a bite-sized format and it's great. Watching the video, for the eighth time, this is how I felt. Literally, obsessed. My friend Chasity who stans for Justin Timberlake, said that Shawn is coming for his throne and I couldn't agree more--fitting that they did this duet. Watch the video below.
so adorable.
Album: NAO - Saturn
Ever since I heard "Adore You" I've been in love with Nao. When I heard her new album was coming out I was excited, and although the singles weren't necessarily rocking my boat, as a whole, I'm loving this album especially "Drive and Disconnect." Take a listen and let me know what you think. // Listen here
Song: "FYT" - MihTY ft. French Montana
I should've seen this coming after hearing "The Light," but Ty $ign and Jermih are a duo under the name of MihTY. On the album, they have some great songs but this is my favorite--the French Montana assisted song is smooth and catchy. // Listen here
Album: Action Bronson - White Bronco
If you know me, you know I love Action Bronson. Like real love, I love Fuck Yeah That's Delicious, his music and everything--which is why I'm so excited about this album. Again, Action coming through with solid production. He left Vice though curious how that will be. // Listen here
Have you been following Quartz' Work, "How We'll Win" series? If not, it's great. It's an interview series with multiple prolific people, and visually, it's just great. There's four parts here that you can read depending on your mood--speaks to mean about the #MeToo Movement and such. Also, I went to the live taping of the podcast Call Your Girlfriend this week, with my girlfriends Maddy and Stephanie (holler ladies) and had no idea about this guy impersonating a Saudi prince. I read this article and literally could not stop laughing--the effort, and ultimate side hustle.
Also one of my favorite writers ever, and genuinely one of my favorite people Niema Jordan has two new articles in the November issue of Essence--grab the magazine on newsstands ASAP! She interviewed Nijla Mu'min, Zoe Renee, and Simone Missick about Jinn (in theaters November 15). She also spoke with experts across the country about healing from trauma! #Proudfriend/readerstan. what are you reading right now?
