Don't you miss GOOD Friday's?
By the time you read this newsletter, it will be the eve of my thirty, flirty and fun and I can’t wait. My twenties have been an interesting finding myself, growth period with many high points: graduating from college, falling in love, moving across the country, traveling, making some great memories with friends--that include deep conversations and epic turn ups. There have also been some lows I’m sure although I’m not one who sits in negatives, but yeah I’m ready to be like Elsa (Frozen “Let It Go” reference) and two-step, crip-walk, or some hybrid of the two into my thirties.
In great Erin fashion I spoke with a few of my favorite people about the biggest lessons they learned in their 30th year, or after and got some great responses which I will share here. My mom said that her thirties allowed her to invent who it was that she wanted to be, and she no longer felt the pressure to be the person that people wanted her to be. My second mom (my stepmom) told me that once she turned 30, she realized how fast life goes. My dawg Mareesa told me:
“Turning 30 has been the most freeing experience I have had thus far with birthday milestones. I felt like I spent most of my 20s trying to figure out what it was that I like, don’t like about myself and my surroundings. But now, I am able to channel my energy more on what makes me happy and work more towards personal goals. This new chapter of life is not only about self-discovery, but living in this new found purpose. Whether you’re still trying to figure it out or actively walking in your purpose. My advice is to constantly work at being a better person inside and out and you’ll be alright.”
One of my people Marie also gave me some great words of wisdom in list format, which I’ve included here and they are love. , what are some of the best lessons you learned when you turned 30 or things you look forward to most about turning 30 if you haven’t yet?
Good clothes open all doors
Have cash in your purse at all times. You’ll feel rich and you’re never caught short.
Make good choices
When you make a choice that doesn’t work out, make another choice. Sometimes the wrong train gets you to the right station.
Pay attention to what energizes you. It’s your “true north,” an inner guidance that is always there for you
You are human and so is everyone else. Develop self-compassion.
There is no such thing as perfect, only “optimal.”
Husbands come and go. A good girlfriend is forever.
Dating: Treat it like you would a rental car.
You have personal guardian angels surrounding you at all times. All you have to do is ask them for help. No request is too small….even asking for a parking place is OK!
Playlist: 30 for Thirty here
Last week I went to a conference for work back home and learned a lot and had a great time. Since my company is an elite partner, we had access to different mixers before and after the conference which included an open bar--winning, and pretty good little food. There was this prawn with green sauce and aoli that I loved--I think I had five, judge me if you may. With all of that being said, the mixers had this one DJ and he was jamming. My VP and I kept Shazaming and dancing to songs he was playing. I added a few of the songs I discovered in this week's playlist--a birthday playlist. In hopes to not go crazy, this week's playlist includes 30 songs to honor my 30th year. Hope you enjoy!
Also, I'm obsessed with this video. Amber Mark makes me swoon so hard.
