While You Were Roaming For a Kitty Kat - Belated Birthday
, how did you celebrate Beyonce's birthday?
For me, I was kind of sad because my grandparents left and I had to go back to work after one week off, but I did eat some good popcorn, and relaxed with my other loved ones. That being said, I don't think I'm a member of the Beehive--I think I'm most so just a relative of the hive. The kind that gets invited to the BBQ because they show love, and who may do the "Wobble" with you, but then leaves the dance floor because that song goes on forever. I'll be honest, in the early Destiny's Child days when there were four girls, my favorite was Letoya. Beyonce was always in the center and even the lead on the Smart Guy episode and I didn't get it. When the group went from four (Letoya and Latavia) to another four (Farrah and Michelle) to three (just Michelle--petty reference), Beyonce became my favorite and I've loved her ever since. Let me also back track and say, even though she was not my favorite initially, I never disliked her.
That being said, whether you're you love Beyonce or not, one that is clear is Beyonce has crazy work ethic. Looking at things like the Beyonce album with the visuals for every song, or Lemonade with all the videos and Beychella and OTR II, Beyonce is always looking for ways to expand on the other things she did and I appreciate that. Well I'll spare you all my feelings, but will leave you with my three favorite Beyonce jams.
Video: Beyonce and Jay-Z BET Performance - Deja Vu
This will ALWAYS be my favorite Beyonce performance. I know the choreography and can't help but see it whenever I hear the song. Let's also give a shout out to the floor part and that hair--hair goals forever. I believe this was also the first time Jay-Z touched her beauty live I saw that and was like YASSSS hunty.
Song: Kitty Kat
This is my most favorite Beyonce song ever. I used to thing this song was my calling because I learned to drive in a Lexus, yeah that was really a floss moment.
Song: Signs ft. Missy Elliot
One of my other favorite Beyonce songs ever. I'm always trying to figure out what she says at the end, currently, I'm under the impression she is saying something about someone tucking her in at night. If you know what she says, please let me know.
Also in complete random and not at all Beyonce related news, can I tell you one of the most disgusting things I heard this week? There’s a squirrel appreciation day it’s literally on a commercial - gross. Why would there ever be a need to celebrate the rats of trees? Well I’ll tell you where I won’t be January 21, under a tree so a stupid squirrel can lose its balance and fall on my head.
Erin out.

I'm working on a new playlist and will share a link next week. In the meantime, feel free to listen to the other playlists below.

Initially, my plan was to find a lot of Beyonce articles that I could share in this newsletter. I was going to share some articles about her, but also some of the things that I associate with Beyonce--hard work, sex appeal, performing but thought that, that would be extra. Instead, I want to use this time to shout out my friend Chasity. If you like wine, Chasity has a great newsletter called "Wine with Chas" that you should to. She recently wrote a great article for Essence that really hit home, "One Year Ago, I Chose Not To Settle For Safe And Moved To NYC Without A Job." In the article, Chasity mentioned the five biggest lessons she learned while making the journey from DC to NYC without a job and here's one that stood out to me in particular, because it's a word.
"Let your faith be your fuel...I put my faith into overdrive, immediately got to work asking for help from my peers and mentors and still made time to celebrate one chapter closing and a new one that was about to begin. When you focus on becoming a better version of yourself and keep God at the helm of that improvement, you will always eliminate the opportunity to be distracted by what everyone else is doing.
Also, my other friend Dominique wrote a great article for Forbes where she interviewed Ayanna James Kimani, the costume designer for Insecure. Great read, check it out here. Also, since we are on the topic of Insecure--how are you guys feeling about this season so far? I'm a little on the fence.
