To All The Boys I Loved Before
this is completely random, but do you know what song is stuck in my head as I write this week's newsletter? "I Am The Cute One" by Mary-Kate and Ashley. Do you remember that era? If not, let me introduce you to the greatness. Apparently, since I don't have a twin, this is a song I sing between myself and my reflection in the mirror.
Anyway, this week has been a pretty week. My family is here visiting me. Although as an only child, moving away from my family and friends was an extremely tough decision, one that I do love about living so far away is that it has really given my family time to visit. My mom has been here a few times. My dad and stepmom have been here a few times--we even did some traveling together when they came to visit, and now my grandparents are here. This is my grandfather's first time in DC, and although I don't know tons of places--I'm excited to do some exploring with them.
LP: Bas - Milky Way
Bas' music continuously gets better and better shown with is new album, Milky Way. He has come a long way from being an opening act for J.Cole as he is really carrying his weight with his new project. Listen to the album, and then tell me what song you think is my favorite--if you know me, this is easy.
LP: Honne - Love Me/ Love Me Not
I have been a fan of Honne since 2014 when I heard their songs "All in The Value" and "Warm on A Cold Night"--which are also the titles of their EP. Now, the London duo are back with their second album and I love the direction that they are going on this time around--very different sound.
Song: Amber Mark - Conexao
So I think I might slightly stan for Amber Mark. Her EP has been one of my most played projects of the year, not to mention I listen to "Love Me Right" and this song so much. I'm currently listening to this song as I write this newsletter doing a slight cha-cha two-step in my seat. If you haven't listened to her EP yet, make sure you do.
Song: Jack Harlow - SUNDOWN
Growing up, I was a huge Little Brother fan and still am. That being said, if Phonte says a song is good I'm always going to give it a listen and I'm obsessed with this song. The beat just knocks like crazy. Also in a complete girl comment--isn't Jack's curl pattern popping?
Song: Shawn Mendes - Lost in Japan
My favorite dancer, Kaycee Rice, was dancing to this song and I fell in love with it which is surprising because I kept saying Shawn sounded bad live at the VMAS. Nonetheless, this song is a vibe and makes me want to skip and two-step like Chris Brown did in the "Yo" video.
Playlist: Coffee Shop Flow
This is a long playlist that I curated but it's pretty good if I say so myself. Being that I work in a somewhat open office, I made a playlist that blocks out noise, and helps me get through work--but isn't hype like my other playlists. Let me know what you think.
what songs are on your chill playlist?

If you have got a few of these newsletters, you would know that one of my favorite places to read on the web is Washington Post's The Lily. It's a great place on the web--they have a newsletter that comes out Monday and Thursday of every week that I suggest you download. That being said, one of my favorite things that they do every so often is feature articles from people who are leaving where they are from the live somewhere else. So far, they have had people from Houston, Kentucky, and the latest is someone who was leaving Atlanta. Since I'm that kind of person--a totally cheeky person, I thought I would do my own from the bay area--although I have been away for now eight months, but who cares. Also thankfully, they have a cap on this list because I could have the tendency to go on, and on, and on.
The five places I miss the most in the Bay Area:
Oakland Grill - I love a good and cost effective brunch where I can have good conversation, a good meal, and get day tipsy without hurting my wallet. That's why I love Oakland Grill so much and I miss it so much. I could honestly go for my favorite omelette right now--it's the bomb: chicken apple sausage, cheese, spinach, mushroom, with salsa fresca and free tomatoes on the side vs. breakfast potatoes--I may be one of the only humans who isn't into fries or breakfast potatoes.
Issues Magazine Shop - Although I have magically decided that I would do something different with my magazine consumption and subscribe to them vs. buying them monthly--I know I'm flabbergasted myself (this is dedicated to Aushlee if you're reading) but Issues is one of my most favorite places ever. When I worked at Kaiser, I would go every other Friday when I got paid and spend $30+ on magazines, then when I started to budget a little better--I would go once per month. But I love the people there so much that when I got interviewed for Localeur and they spent a day in the life with me, that was where I went.
Rockwall Winery - Why this is third on my list baffles me. Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE Rockwall. Just think, good weather, good vibes, and amazing food. Also, if you're into scenery, there's a very nice view of the Bay Area.
Napa - In general, even though it's not the "Bay Area" it was really just a hop and a skip away to Napa. I would love to go there right now and have a good glass of wine somewhere.
Warriors Games, in Oakland - They haven't moved yet, but Warriors Games were one of my favorite activities. My parents had season tickets so it was always fun to get to go the games and watch the Warriors play, and watch the Warriors girls--even though in present time they started getting boring to me--the energy in the Coliseum is just like nothing else. It still annoys me to think that the Warriors are moving to San Francisco--like brush why.
Lake Merritt - of course. Always a good time--you see everyone you know. I think the Bay Area is one of the biggest small places around.
