How are your finances looking this month?
Sometimes I feel like that old person who keeps repeating the same stories over and over, but sometimes the repetitive thing is warranted--in this case for instance. One day, my cousin and I were having a conversation with my dad about money and finances, and my dad said: "Money is only here to fuel the experience." Since that conversation, I've always attempted to look at my finances in that way--spending money on things that make an impact or fuel some type of experience I haven't been privy to. Prior to this conversation, I was the person who saved money and ended up broke because I was afraid to touch the saved money--I know in context that makes no sense, but I've somewhat switched my mindset.
That being said, since I am crip walking into my 30's (October 20th--birthday wishlist includes: pens, a new leather-bound journal, and gift cards //hit your girl up) one of my goals I had for the year was to improve my finances. No, my finances have never been terrible—I don’t have much credit card debt and I don’t frivolously spend, but I think in general I was just a little h clear about how things work, why I needed a 401K when I still have hella long to work, and things like that. So this newsletter, I’m doing a little bit different and using it as a space for a mid-year (kind of late) financial check-in. I’m putting some of my favorite reads as if late with finances, podcast listens and etc.
Hopefully, you will find these resources helpful.
Initially, I was going to write out some Nicki Minaj Queen disses, but I had a WWJD moment and decided to highlight some of my favorite finance podcasts and/or episodes of shows. Let me just say though, I don't like Nicki's album and I'll let you know why next week, but yes, let's get smart with some podcasts.
Podcast: Paychecks & Balances
This is not the first time I've mentioned this podcast, and I'm more than sure it will not be the last time either. This is one of my favorite podcasts as it gives practical tips about things like credit, budgeting, and other helpful financial tips--and some career tips as well.

Episode: Make Money Moves w/The Budgetnista
I listen to this podcast from time to time because Dustin makes me happy. This episode, however, was a personal favorite because I felt like more than just being entertained, I learned a lot. I learned the five factors that go into your credit, as well as other tips.

Podcast: Ladies Get Paid
In general, I am all for Ladies Get Paid. If you're not hip, here's a quick synopsis into what Ladies Get Paid is, even though the name kind of gives you a hint. I was excited to know that they have a podcast and binged through the episodes. If you have any downtime and want to be motivated, this is a good listen.

Podcast: Her Money
Another great podcast that I love is Her Money with Jean Chatzky. Jean always has great conversation with her guests and a lot of the episodes are centered around things from your everyday life like whether or not you should pay someone to manage your dating profile--if you're into this, holla at this playa right here--shoutout Jim Crow.

Bethenny Frankel is one of my favorite housewives (along with Gizelle, Brandy, Vicky, and Ramona) and more than anything, I've always admired her hustle, drive and the boss moves she's made. Bethenny recently gave some really great financial tips that you may enjoy. Additionally, here's the space for another shameless Erin plug, but I wrote a pretty snazzy article about finances for The Everygirl which you can read below also.
