You're Into Goop? *Side Eye*
, I been gone for a minute now I'm back with the jump off.
Well, that quote had nothing to do with much of anything, but I was using it to describe that I've changed the look and feel of this space slightly. Perhaps there were better songs I could have chosen to quote, but that's a great Lil' Kim moment so that's that.
This week, I'm doing things a little bit different and instead of just highlighting new tunes that I'm loving currently, I wanted to revisit some of my favorite albums that remind me of summer since it's going by so fast. The first album that I am revisiting is Poolside's 2012 release, Pacific Standard Time. As a California native, this album feels just like home.
I remember the first time I heard "Next To You," which is my favorite song from the album, I could not stop bobbing my head and doing some weird shoulder shrug--still do both things when listening to this song as it just makes me feel good. Those same sentiments can be said for the album in general. Although some critics had issues with the album, some thought it was too long, I think the album is the perfect runtime and a great backdrop for summer road trips, or summer house parties.
What are some of your favorite summer albums?
Song: Sasha Keable - That's My Shit
In my first issue of this here newsletter, I wrote about my love of Sasha Keable and how I wished she would start making music again and it seems like my prayers have been answered. Sasha just released her new single "That's My Shit" and literally, as the title alludes to I feel it.

Song: Mac Miller - What's The Use
Mac Miller for me has been one of the most consistent artists. Not consistent in the fact that he is always releasing projects in a timely manner, but honestly all his albums are always pretty good. He's gearing up to release his new album, Swimming, and I'm loving this song.

Album: VanJess - Silk Canvas
For the past few months, I have seen people sharing the music of LA-based duo VanJess, but it wasn't until their debut album was released last Friday that I actually started to take notice, and I love it. The songs are catchy, they have great vocals, and I love the production.

Album: Rome Fortune & Tori Moi - Toro Y Moi, Vol. 1
This album was a random find for me. I love Toro--and like some Rome Fortune songs. The mix of the two, although super random, is a breath of fresh air. It's a small project, an EP I assume, but its a pretty good listen.

Beats & Reads // Sampled Summer // Throwback // Internet Web
Last week, New York Times ran a profile of actress and Goop founder, Gwyneth Paltrow and I was somewhat on the fence about it which could be attributed to reading on a mobile device. Whenever I mention Goop related things, I'm always met with either a side-eye with a lingering question or just the question outright--"Girl, you're a Gooper?" Why people dislike Gwyneth and Goop so much, I'm not sure, but after reading the article on the computer I actually did dig this profile. It's a good read, but just hella, hella long. Gwyneth is a character but she doesn't bother me. If you have a solid 20-30 minutes, please give it a read.
